House Honnet Garson, Johannesburg, SA

2015

This speculative house involved the subdivision of a property in Forest Town and the renovation of the existing heritage house, designed by Robert Howden in 1921. There were various alterations and additions to the house over the years.

The approach was to strip the house to its original envelope, remove all extraneous elements and then to reconstruct and extend it into a contemporary four bedroom house. The demolitions revealed a portico with columns that had been previously concealed, the front façade restored to its original. Internal walls were removed at ground level to create open connected common spaces.
