Beyers Naude Square, Johannesburg, SA
2009
The project involved the demolition of the 1970’s edge buildings, which separated the historical Johannesburg square from the city. The stair towers which access the parking garage below became the main elements of the square. The glass surfaces of these towers light the space at night. The image of Beyers Naude commemorates the square as a place of public protest.
